Voyage to the Great Indies is an official publication of an English-translated anonymous diary from the 17th century that follows a young Parisian noble who becomes a mercenary for the Dutch East India Company in Melaka. The book is published by Nutmeg Books who approached me to develop the book cover and design the promotional launch campaign.
Working within an established system
Nutmeg Books has a generic book cover layout they have used from newer publications in the past year. Hence, the clean and simple design was used for this cover. The image that was requested to be used as the book cover is a vintage illustration of a Parisian mercenary that matches the background of the author of the original diary. An orange colour was chosen to best match the colours of the main image.
Campaign applications
I created digital assets using the book’s cover design as the visual system for the launch campaign. The designs incorporate historical elements from the book while maintaining a clean, modern aesthetic.
To support the campaign outreach online, I produced three videos to promote the book's content and drive a larger audience towards purchasing it as well as attending the book launch. These videos have garnered around 5400+ views in total.
As for the physical launch itself, I designed physical materials to translate the identity of the book, reinforcing it's presence within physical spaces and in-person events.
